Pre-Congress Symposium 4: New Radiobiological Approaches in Radionuclide Therapy
EANM’12 Milan | Saturday, October 27, 2012
>> register here
09:00 – 13:30 | Hall Amber 3

Aim, Content and Target Audience:

The symposium is devoted to the implementation of radiobiology into clinical practice and aims at bringing together physicians, physicists and biologists for the sake of a discipline that is bound to grow in the following years, especially in the therapeutic field.
The symposium wants to elucidate the role of radiobiology in understanding and planning radionuclide therapy with special emphasis on implementing new techniques and new radiobiological models to design new therapeutic approaches.

Educational Objectives:

At the end of the symposium the attendee should be up dated in the following fields:
  • biological dosimetry techniques for the assessment of individual radiosensitivity, radiation types, efficacy of radioprotectors, retrospective radiation absorbed dose measurement
  • the use of genetic markers of susceptibility to radiation damage and oxidative stress and their possible implementation in radionuclide therapy planning
  • non target effects, with special emphasis on the role of oxidative stress in radiation damage
  • modelling of tumour and normal tissue response for setting up new models of radionuclide therapy
  • the use of biological dosimetry in clinical practice
  • the radiobiological models and mechanisms in radioimmunotherapy
  • use of anti oxydants as radioprotectors for the protection of normal tissues in order to maximise therapeutic effects
  • understanding the mechanism of microsphere liver treatment and differences between different treatments available
