Pre-Congress Symposium 3: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Value of Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) in International Protocols: Present and Future
EANM’12 Milan | Saturday, October 27, 2012
08:30 – 15:45 | Hall Amber 5/6
Aim, Content and Target Audience:
This state-of-the-art symposium is aimed to update practicing physicians, residents and scientists on the clinical use of MIBG for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The speakers are academic experts whose studies in this field are internationally appreciated. The symposium topics will cover current status and future considerations. Practical issues and pitfalls will also be addressed. In the morning session, the five topics will focus on an overview, international trials, new perspectives, dosimetry and clinical protocols in diagnosis and therapy. In the afternoon session, an overview will be followed by 2 sessions on PET radiopharmaceuticals and low versus high activity. General discussion sessions both in the morning and in the afternoon sessions will give the audience a chance to ask questions to the experts. The symposium will be closed with a summary of the day at the end of the afternoon session.Educational Objectives:
The participants will be updated on the unique role of MIBG in neuroblastoma and pheochromocytoma.Basic educational points include:
- Background of MIBG imaging and therapy
- Continuous role of MIBG in current clinical and research practice,
- Clinical indications of diagnostic and therapeutic use of MIBG,
- Dosimetry and radiopharmaceutical aspects of MIBG,
- Results of international studies,
- Possible role of neuroendocrine tumor avid PET radiopharmaceuticals
